Each year, ICOM creates an International Museum Day poster, as well as a postcard and web banner, linked to the theme of the year, enabling participating museums to illustrate the theme and to attract visitors with an appealing design.  

For the 2016 poster, we wanted to highlight a multiplicity of cultural landscapes. These territories, composed of varied elements, create mosaics which are beautiful in their diversity. This idea of a composite blending is reflected in the 2016 poster, showing that the richness of a cultural landscape comes from the combination of nature and culture. The poster design highlights mosaics, which are a part of our daily lives and heritage and make up our cultural landscape. The non-coloured parts invite viewers to imagine their own version of the poster, making them actors in the constantly evolving cultural landscape.
